In the months after her husband's death, Chiamaka noticed her health declining but couldn't afford to see a doctor. What began as fatigue and occasional pain progressed for nearly a year before a JOF community health screening caught a serious, treatable condition that had gone undiagnosed.

"By the time I was screened, I could barely stand for long," Chiamaka says. "I had been putting my children first, telling myself I would deal with my health later. Later almost never came."

JOF's healthcare program covered the full cost of her treatment and connected her with a grief counselor to help her process the loss of her husband alongside her health scare. Over eight months, Chiamaka made a full recovery.

She now volunteers at JOF's quarterly medical outreach clinics, encouraging other widows in her community not to delay care, sharing her own story as a reminder of what's at stake.
